Thanks to the national project Digital Gallery (funded by the European Regional Development Fund) more than 100 100 works from the collections of several Slovak galleries including the SNG have been digitized since 2012 and gradually made available to the public on the Web umenia website.
Works with high resolution images are continually added to Web umenia. In the catalog of works you can recognize them by the magnifying glass icon – a zoom function for viewing in the original size. In the catalog they can be sorted using the "only with zoom" filter.
Digital Reproductions
You can order reproductions of works from the SNG collections in digital form on the website. The provision of digital reproductions is assessed individually based on the specific work and the purpose of use. In connection with copyright protection the SNG does not provide digital reproductions of protected works for general private purposes such as decoration or gifts.
When providing works protected by copyright that are not in the public domain the SNG proceeds with regard to the license the right of use based on the author's expression of will and the historical context of copyright development. The SNG does not possess the right to unrestricted use of its collection items.
Copyright may be owned or managed by another entity such as the LITA copyright society authors or heirs. In such cases it is necessary to consult the relevant entity for permission to use the work. Every provision of a digital reproduction is subject to signing a contract that specifies the purpose of its use.
We send the link to download the images from the SNG server only after receiving the signed contract photographed scanned or sent by mail. For research purposes such as school and scientific papers or biographies and educational purposes such as teaching aids or textbooks we usually provide reproductions free of charge. For commercial purposes like press articles publications or promotional materials and exhibitions the price depends on several factors and is evaluated individually.
Unfortunately the SNG cannot grant all requests for commercial purposes. When making a decision factors such as a dignified way of handling cultural heritage increasing knowledge of the region or local specifics are assessed. We provide digital reproductions only for works from the SNG collections. Digital reproductions of works managed by other galleries are provided only upon submission of written consent from the relevant institution.
The name of the gallery managing the work in question is listed under the "Gallery" item in the information about the work. The time required to process an order depends on the copyright status of specific works and may in some cases require several weeks. Therefore we recommend ordering digital reproductions well in advance.
Public Domain
Works Works by authors who died more than 70 years ago are in the public domain and are available for download in high resolution .jpg format. If the source is correctly cited according to the recommendation displayed during download they can be used for any purpose.
