Summer Creative Camp at the Slovak National Gallery (6 – 10 July 2026)

The Path of Art – From the Self to the World
Vystavené dielo
Art is a journey – towards oneself, towards others, and towards the world around us. During the summer camp, children will become explorers of the visual arts world, where past meets present, reality intertwines with fantasy, and individual expression merges with collaborative creation.

We will draw inspiration from works held in the Slovak National Gallery, which will open doors to a variety of artistic approaches, styles, and stories.

Each day will be devoted to a different theme – from discovering one's own artistic voice, through experimenting with colour, to creating space and narrative. Children will explore a range of visual art techniques (painting, drawing, printmaking, object-making, installation) whilst developing their imagination, sensitivity to detail, and capacity for collaboration.

MONDAY / I as an Artist – Discovering My Identity

The first day will be defined by the spirit of getting acquainted – not only with one another, but also with the world of art and the gallery. Together, we will explore who an artist is and where art begins – whether each of us is capable of becoming a creator. Inspired by portraits from the gallery, children will delve into the theme of identity and create their own self-portrait on canvas, capturing not only their likeness but also their emotions, moods, and inner world.

TUESDAY / The World of Colour and Abstraction – When Colours Speak

On the second day, we will immerse ourselves in the world of abstract art, where there are no fixed rules, but rather feelings, rhythm, and intuition to guide us. We will experiment with colour as a means of expression – discovering its layers, texture, and dynamism. Children will try out a variety of techniques, such as dabbing, working with stencils, and spontaneous painting, and will explore how colour can convey mood. Together, they will also create a large-format collective artwork that will demonstrate the power of shared creation.

WEDNESDAY / Shape and Space – Art That Steps Off the Surface

The third day will focus on the transition from two-dimensional to three-dimensional art. Inspired by sculptural works, children will explore the principles of three-dimensional creation. They will work with a range of materials and model their own sculptures. In the afternoon session, they will take part in a shared creative process, the result of which will be a collective object or installation reflecting collaboration, communication, and a common vision.

THURSDAY / Image and Story – When Art Tells a Tale

Thursday will belong to storytelling through image. Children will be introduced to the basics of the linocut printmaking technique and will produce their own prints, gaining an insight into the principles of reproducible art. We will explore how an image can convey narrative, build tension, and express emotion without the use of words. In the afternoon session, children will design and complete original T-shirts using their own graphic motifs, which they will take home as a personal memento of the entire creative week.

FRIDAY / Traces of Creation – What Remains Within Us

The final day will be a space for completing, connecting, and reflecting upon the creative outputs from the whole week. Children will work with colour, symbol, and personal artistic gesture, whilst being given the opportunity to return to their ideas, develop them further, and create a piece of work that reflects their own view of the world.

Bonus:

On Friday, the children will become curators of their own exhibition. Together, they will select, install, and arrange their works within the space, considering how the paintings, objects, and individual pieces communicate with one another. In the afternoon, they will present their joint exhibition to their parents during a closing presentation.
