Together with leading Slovak historian PhDr. Michal Bada, PhD., each lecture will explore different themes hidden within artworks and raise questions that remain relevant today.
Topic: Journeying Through Landscape in Time and Space
History unfolds in time and space. Through works of art, the lecture will explore how natural, cultural, and urban landscapes have changed over the centuries. How might the people who lived there have perceived their surroundings, and how are they captured in the visual sources that have survived to the present day?
We will learn how landscapes were once defined and what anthropogenic landmarks characterised them. With the dawn of the modern era, perceptions of time also began to change, including its quality and value. Ways of measuring time changed, as did the ways in which it was announced. Why did precision become a value, and how can time be wasted?
Together, we will seek answers to these and many other questions in the second lecture of the series.
