When Strings Meet — Chamber Concert

Vystavené dielo
začína o 8 dní
We invite you to the next event in the SNG Concert Cycle, organized in cooperation with the Slovak Philharmonic.

This time, you can look forward to a chamber recital by Camerata Philharmonica Slovaca. World-renowned harpist Katarína Turnerová and cellist Ewa Barciok will perform in an unusual pairing of harp and cello—instruments capable of creating an exceptionally delicate, intimate, and colorful soundscape.

Ranging from Antonio Vivaldi and Marcel Tournier to Max Bruch, as well as Polish and Slovak composers, the concert will journey across centuries and musical moods.

The program will feature works by Mateusz Spyrka, Zygmunt Noskowski, Milan Novák, and Vladimír Godár—pieces written specifically for this unique duo of instruments. In their performance, the harp and cello meet in a dialogue full of fragility, depth, unexpected contrasts, and tonal combinations, merging two instruments into a single chamber voice.

Katarína Turnerová

She is one of Slovakia's leading harpists and has served as principal harpist of the Slovak Philharmonic since 1995. She studied at the Žilina Conservatory and the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, completing her doctoral studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, where she currently teaches.

Alongside her extensive orchestral concert and recording career, Katarína Turnerová performs frequently as a soloist and chamber musician in various ensembles and orchestras both at home and abroad. In addition to participating in major domestic music festivals, she has represented Slovak performing arts on stages worldwide.

She has collaborated with classical music icons as well as artists outside the genre—from Plácido Domingo and Richard Stoltzman to Ray Charles and Liza Minnelli. Her versatile interpretation is documented by numerous recordings and several solo albums, including Canto Amoroso, featuring works by Slovak composer Milan Novák.

Her artistic achievements have earned her the Frico Kafenda Award and the Personality of Bratislava 2021 title; in 2019, she was nominated for the Slovak Woman of the Year award.

Ewa Barciok

She is a Polish cellist and a member of the Slovak Philharmonic in Bratislava. She completed her master's degree at the I. J. Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań and is currently finalizing her doctoral studies at the University of Ostrava.

As a soloist and chamber musician, she has collaborated with prominent orchestras and musical institutions in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and the Netherlands, including Sinfonia Varsovia, the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. In 2016, she represented Poland at the Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm, advancing to the finals alongside singer Michał Szpak.

The core of her artistic work lies in contemporary music. She regularly performs at international festivals and concert stages, premiering new works—several of which were composed specifically for her. Her artistic and academic achievements have been recognized with numerous awards and scholarships, including the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland Award and the Mayor of Toruń Award.
