A typical feature of his work is the use of a geometric grid composed of horizontals, verticals, and diagonals. He complements these structures with successive layers of overlapping colour planes that create visual tension, rhythm, and an illusion of movement. In some paintings, space is distorted, compressed, or rotated; in others, the artist shifts the main compositional tension to the edges of the canvas, thereby disrupting the traditional perception of pictorial balance.
Since 2007, Szentpétery has been developing a series of large-format circular paintings, the shape and execution of which evoke a sense of three-dimensionality. Drawing inspiration from new technologies such as photographic effects and computer modelling, he creates the illusion of a curved, non-Euclidean space within the picture plane. In his later works, this principle is further developed through ellipsoidal forms and network structures, often complemented by seemingly plastic, convex forms.
In this way, Adam Szentpétery creates a distinctive and intellectually conceived painting practice that pushes the boundaries of geometric abstraction. His work represents a significant contribution to contemporary painting and places him among the important figures of the Central European art scene.
