11 September 2025 – The exhibition Bang! Bang?! offers an overview of Slovak art (predominantly) from the late 1960s to the present day, drawn from the collections of the Slovak National Gallery (SNG). Art enthusiasts and the wider public will have the opportunity to see works by important figures such as Jozef Jankovič, Milan Bočkay, Laco Teren, Viktor Frešo, Tono Stano and many others.
Bang! Bang?! traces the development of art over the past fifty years and more, particularly in Slovakia but also within the broader Central European context. It features paintings, sculptures and photographs from the SNG’s collection.
In conceiving the exhibition, the gallery aimed to present a wide-ranging survey of works from its holdings, spanning the great names of the Slovak art scene from the second half of the 20th century to the latest creations by the middle and younger generations of artists.
“This year, under my leadership, the Slovak National Gallery is already bringing its third exhibition. Following From the West and Once Upon a Time, Bang! Bang?! will provide the public with a unique insight into the work of Slovak artistic personalities across several decades. I believe that everyone who enjoys visual art will find much to look forward to,” said Juraj Králik, Director General of the SNG.
In addition to the artists mentioned above, visitors will also be able to admire works by other major figures such as Ivan Csudai, Stano Bubán, Peter Rónai and Jozef Šramka.
The exhibition Bang! Bang?! is composed of works from the collections of the Slovak National Gallery. The SNG is the exclusive owner of these works and holds the right to exhibit them. With this exhibition, too, the Slovak National Gallery fulfils its fundamental mission: to care for its collections with expertise and responsibility, and to make them accessible to the widest possible public.
