The Slovak National Gallery (SNG) strongly objects to the false and misleading information disseminated by the "Slobodná národná galéria" (Free National Gallery) on social media. Their sole objective is to damage the Gallery’s reputation through unsubstantiated and deceitful claims regarding the alleged endangerment of its art collection.
We hereby publicly declare that no items from the collection sustained any damage as a result of the situation that occurred in February 2026. The relevant professional departments have addressed and monitored the situation intensively. Immediate corrective measures were taken, and we emphasize once more that no work of art was damaged or endangered.
Furthermore, we reject the persistent misinterpretations that create a distorted and false image of the institution's activities, which undermine and disparage the professional work of the Slovak National Gallery's staff.
The attacks against the Slovak National Gallery have nothing to do with the protection of cultural heritage or substantive professional debate; their only goal is to provide the public with misleading information, portray the Gallery in a negative light, and incite unnecessary concern. This is a deliberate spread of a false narrative intended to erode public trust in the institution.
