Dušan Samuel Jurkovič (1868–1947) is an iconic personality of 20th century Slovak architecture. Creator of The Cairn of Milan Rastislav Štefánik at Bradlo, he was also active outside Slovakia, and had interests beyond architecture. A furniture designer, ethnographer, and publicist, he lived and worked in Moravia for almost 30 years, earning many architectural assignments, and becoming extensively involved in furniture and interior design, especially during his stay in Brno (1899–1918).

The SNG collection has a set of furniture from this period that he designed for his study and bedroom, favourite pieces that travelled with him to his many addresses. They form the basis of a collection display that introduces Dušan Jurkovič as a furniture designer, collector, and expert in domestic craftsmanship. The display takes the form of a stylized showroom – much as Jurkovič created in his house in Brno-Žabovřesky, where at the beginning of the 20th century he hosted exhibitions of architecture and applied art.
